Many people dread Mondays. Most of the time, I'm one of them. I can get increasingly upset or bummed out on Sunday nights, which isn't fun for anyone. So to counter this, I'm instituting a new plan: Mindfulness Monday!
Each Monday, I pledge to:
- Return to my breath every 30 minutes. I've got my phone timer set, and when the alarm goes off, I'll practice a 4-4-8 count breath: breath in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, and breath out for 8 seconds. I'll do this three times in a row.
- Take a walk, and keep my phone in my bag. It doesn't matter where, or for how long; but I will just focus on what the walk feels like, and what I see and hear.
- Call a friend/family member and have a conversation.
- Practice Living Open, and review the principles three times a day. What have I done, what can I can do? How do I feel about what I've done so far today? I've got phone alerts set for 10am, 4pm, and 10pm.
You can bring mindfulness into your own life as well. This was a great little article with different techniques. What are your favorites? Many of them, including the ones I've added, may seems silly at first, but I've always felt calmer, happier, and more a part of my life after practicing them. Good luck!
