Returning to Center

Sometimes, we veer off course. We slowly drift away from our lane, or careen wildly in an entirely new direction. It can be hard to re-center and find ourselves in the midst of that. That's what I've been working on the past 10 weeks; noticing the drift, and the lost feelings that accompany it, and bringing myself back to the core of family, friendship, and life goals. If you're in a similar funk, here's how I'm returning to my center:

Surround Yourself with Friends

I've reached out and called folks, and planned spur of the moment get-togethers. Each week I have at least two casual events to look forward to.

Breath

I've kept up my breathing 'mini meditation', and practice it whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed. Breath in for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, and breath out for 8. Repeat as needed.

Therapy

Do it. Seriously. As a talker, my weekly meetings have been enormously helpful. Psychology Today is a great website for finding someone to talk to about life goals, and interpersonal happiness.

Exercise

I've got a membership at my local YMCA, and it's been fantastic.

Everyone can get off track, and there's no shame in it. Β Returning to center can be a slow and uphill journey, but it always gets easier as you spiral closer and closer to the middle. Β Good luck my friends.
